Beautiful Cottage to rent in Argyll... [ previous
]
The attractive fishing villages of Tarbert, Tayvallich
and Crinan are a short ride away and offer some
spectacular views, fine eating places and a virtually
unlimited choice of things to do. Ferries to Islay,
Ghia and Arran are within easy reach.
From Ardfern, about 15 mins drive away, it is
possible to take a boat trip around Loch Craignish
to see the seals and bird life or take a little
longer trip across the sound and see the famous
Gulf of Corryvreckan and its notorious whirlpool.
Passing near to the Isle of Jura you might catch
sight of one of a number of golden eagles which
nest on the island. In our garden we have
seen red squirrels, heron and a wide variety of
bird life. Osprey breed in the area and at nesting
time may often be seen over the Loch. Red deer
too are a common sight.
The nearest supermarket shopping is at Lochgilphead
(14 miles) but there is a village shop in Ardfern about 5 miles away.
The petrol filling station just out of Lochgilphead
is also very useful and sells coal and many provisions.
The Kilmartin Hotel, which is about 10 minutes
drive, serves food as does the visitor centre
for the spectacular museum in Kilmartin. The Loch
Melfort Hotel at Aduaine, the Tayvallich Inn,
the Galley of Lorne at Ardfern, the Crinan Hotel
and, the Cairnbaan Hotel all offer excellent food
at reasonable prices.
Fishing tickets are available from the Ederline Estate.
Some fishing on Loch Awe is free. Fishing from
our own river bank is also permissible.
Car parking space is at the side of the cottage.
There is a covered wood store and lockable shed
where it is possible to keep bicycles and where
we keep garden chairs, barbecue, coal etc. The
garden has picnic table and benches overlooking
the stream and a summer house with decking up
the hill which makes a good vantage point.
